The actual Bible was evidently inherited by Marcella’s eldest son James Paget Beatty who passed it to his daughter Kathleen McTaggart (nee Beatty) who passed it in turn to her daughter Janet Godfrey (nee McTaggart). It since appears to have been lost. Luckily Janet Godfrey copied out all the family entries as well as adding those for her own generation.

Along with the Bible, according to Janet Godfrey (nee McTaggart) was a document showing that James Paget (1802-1872), father of Marcella Beatty, was appointed Justice of the Peace in County Sligo “the sixteenth Day of October in the fifth Year of Our Reign” – William the Fourth. That would have been in 1835. Some of the duties mentioned in the document are inquiries into “Witchcrafts, Inchantments, Sorceries, Magic Arts, Trespasses, Fore stallings, Regratings, Engrossings and Extortions whatsoever”
